DR. LESLY WADE-WOOLLEY became a Canadian citizen in 1995. She likes bluegrass, big jewellery, and giant cups of coffee (with double milk and half a sugar). She hates to fly and has a zillion frequent traveler points with VIA Rail. She wears all the gear all the time (ATGATT) when riding her Vespa – safety first! She lives with two golden retrievers, as well as other assorted family members.
LINDSAY HEGGIE is a third year Ph.D. student in cognitive studies. Her dissertation work focuses on prosodic awareness, and she is particularly interested in the relationship between prosody, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. She holds Master’s degrees in both Linguistics and Education and is a former Knowledge Officer at CLLRNet. When she’s not in the lab, she can be found trying out new recipes or out for a walk with her puppy Sunny.
JESSICA CHAN is a second year M.Ed. student who holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Employment Relations. Before moving to Kingston, she spent over four years as a clinical psychology assistant at OISE/UofT while volunteering with the school board and non-profit initiatives. Her research interests include executive processing and working memory in reading development, prosody, and L2 education. Jess enjoys staying physically active, reading about human behaviour, and eating good food!
STEFANIE SEBOK is a second year Ph.D. student with an interest in assessment, evaluation, and measurement. She holds undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Education as well as a graduate degree in Counselling. She currently works at Queen’s HCDS as a personal counsellor. Presently, Stefanie is working with Lesly, Lindsay, and Jessica to complete a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the relationship between music and reading. She makes a wicked Hungarian goulash.
LISA MASSOUD is a first year M.Ed student with a degree in Linguistics and International Studies as well as a Bachelor of Education (P/J). She is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers. She has research interests in reading and prosody with a special focus on how teachers conceptualize reading with expression. Lisa is an avid traveller who enjoys volunteering, gluten free cooking/baking, and spending time with her family and friends.
MARTHA PALM-LEIS is in her final year as an honours Psychology major with a Linguistics minor. Her thesis focuses on the effects of prosodic awareness on reading ability in adults and children. Her passion for language was fuelled by her experience leading English conversation classes through the QUIC, as well as volunteering in the speech-therapy clinic at St. Mary’s hospital. Martha intends to pursue a career in speech-language pathology. Her hobbies include singing, crafting and rock climbing.
LARA THERRIEN BOULOS is an occasional volunteer with the LLRLab and a full-time sweetheart… uh, I mean Admission Coordinator in the Admissions Office at Queen’s. In her spare time, Lara enjoys knitting, cooking (she even has a blog for her recipes!), and a good cup of tea.
